Muş Alparslan University has prepared a development-oriented animal husbandry project by considering the needs of the field in line with the regional strategic goals in the field of animal production of the Eastern Anatolian Region, especially Muş, where it is located, and has applied for the second call period of the YÖK's Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program. As a result of the evaluations made, our university was selected as a Pilot State University in the field of animal husbandry on 12.12.2018.
Before the allocation of the budget needed for the activities related to the project, the university has started the preparation of the necessary legislation and infrastructure preparation works in order to carry out the project in a healthy way, and the details of the related activities have been indicated under the headings below.
Employment of Academicians Who Will Take Part in the Implementation of the Project
Academic personnel have been employed regarding the project subjects in line with the staff allocation of the Higher Education Institution. As of September 2019, 7 assistant professors, 4 research assistants and 1 lecturer have been appointed to the Department of Animal Production and Technologies. On the other hand, 6 assistant professors and 2 research assistants were appointed to the Department of Plant Production and Technologies. Thanks to the employment of personnel, academic staff with high field experience required for the healthy execution of the project will join the project and will be active in directing project activities, providing consultancy and training services and conducting academic studies in terms of their areas of expertise.
Preparation of the Legislative Infrastructure of the Project
In order to ensure that the activities within the scope of the Regional Development Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program Animal Husbandry Project are carried out without interruption, the “Muş Alparslan University Regional Development Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program Animal Husbandry Project Directive” was accepted and put into effect by the decision numbered 2-I dated 25.02.2019 of the Muş Alparslan University Senate.
Preparation of Project Work Plans
In order to ensure that the project activities are carried out without interruption within the framework of a plan, five-year work plans have been prepared on the basis of sub-projects. The activity-based processes of the business plans have been designed over 12 months of the year, and the personnel responsible for the execution of each activity and the institutions and organizations to be worked with have been assigned.
Preparation of a Project-Specific Logo and Website
Work is ongoing for a website that will include written and visual documents in order to introduce and disseminate the Mus Alparslan University Regional Development Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program Livestock Project and project activities to the public, and the website will be completed and published on the internet in 2019. In addition, a thematic logo design has been made specifically for the project. The logo is included in all visuals used by the university, especially on the website of Mus Alparslan University, and on corporate pages on social media.
Activities within the Scope of the Sub-Project on Increasing the Professional Competencies of Animal Breeders
In order for cattle and sheep breeders to carry out conscious and rational animal production, meetings were held with the managers of the Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (DAKA), Cattle Breeders Association, Sheep-Goat Breeders Association and Buffalo Breeders Association operating in Muş, and discussions were held on how to plan the subjects and course dates for increasing the professional skills of breeders. Within this framework, trainings for increasing the professional skills of breeders are planned to start in November 2019 after the completion of activities related to field agriculture.
In addition to providing practical trainings to breeders, studies are ongoing with the Muş Governorship and Yıldız Alparslan Agricultural Enterprise Directorate on the allocation of the required plant production land with cattle-sheep breeding enterprises and farmer training center that can be an example with their application and infrastructure. In this context, studies are ongoing regarding the allocation of 10 thousand acres of pasture land to our university within the scope of the Animal Husbandry Project, and various meetings have been held with the municipalities, mukhtars and producers in the region. In the first stage, it was decided that the Farmer Training Center and Application Farms would be located within the Karaköprü Campus of our University.
In this context, a comprehensive feasibility study was carried out regarding the farmer training center. Within the scope of the study, farmer training centers operating in countries with advanced agricultural and animal husbandry and good examples and working methods within the country were investigated.
Preparation studies for occupational standards are ongoing as the basis for vocational courses to be given to animal breeders, and the establishment of occupational standards by the Vocational Qualifications Authority
