Muş Province has 6 districts including the center and the number of villages is 368. Muş Province, located at an altitude of 1350 meters, has an area of 8196 km². 42% of its land assets are agricultural land, 34% pasture, 11.5% meadow and 9% forest land. Muş Province, which is rich in terms of agricultural land and pasture assets, also has a very high livestock potential. Muş Province has approximately 1 million head of small cattle and approximately 300 thousand head of large cattle. The central district, Bulanık and Malazgirt districts are areas where cattle breeding is intensive. It is among the top 15 provinces in Turkey in terms of cattle assets. Approximately 330 thousand tons of milk and 9 thousand tons of meat are produced annually.

Based on the sector reports created as a result of workshops held for animal husbandry in Muş Province, it is possible to summarize the problem areas of the cattle sector in Muş Province as follows;

- Low productivity in existing cattle and lack of qualified breeding stock,

- Inadequacy in fodder crop production and problems in animal feeding,

- Deficiencies in the professional qualifications of breeders and animal caretakers,

- Animal welfare and animal health problems originating from animal shelters,

- Animal diseases,

- Lack of organizational awareness in animal husbandry and ineffectiveness of existing organizations,

- Problems related to market and marketing.

Muş Alparslan University has prepared a development-oriented animal husbandry project considering the needs of the field in line with the regional strategic goals in the field of animal production of the Eastern Anatolia Region, especially Muş, where it is located, and has applied for the second call period of the YÖK's Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program. As a result of the evaluations, our university was selected as a Pilot State University in the field of animal husbandry on 12.12.2018.

A series of projects that complement each other are needed to be implemented to solve the problem areas of the cattle farming sector in Muş province. In this respect, this umbrella project, which includes the following sub-projects, has been prepared. Within the scope of the umbrella project;

- Project to increase the professional qualifications of animal breeders,

- Project to collect and market raw milk in cold chain through breeder organization,

- Project to produce and market contracted feed plants through breeder organization,

- Project to develop animal production-based industry

The following developments will be achieved with the implementation of these projects;

- More conscious and economical production will be possible depending on the increase in professional skills raised.

- Genetic quality of raised cattle breeds will increase.

- Raw milk and carcass production will increase in addition to qualified breeding heifers depending on combined cattle breed breeding.

- Animal and animal product trade will be revitalized due to the increase in production.

- Since the amount of milk in the biological quality desired by the industrialist will increase due to the establishment of cold chain infrastructure in milk collection, the way will be paved for the marketing of milk at value price.

- As the purity of cattle breeds increases, livestock farming will become more attractive as financial gains from breeding sales will increase.

- Barns will be more modernized.
